Harvest Street Mission (HSM) is a small non-profit that started organizing & providing meals for folks who live on the streets, in shelters or in low income housing with a focus on the North Side of Pittsburgh.

We serve the community 52 weeks a year, every Sunday, Noon - 1:00.  Each week, we set up right in the Allegheny Commons park (or if its muddy on the sidewalk next to the park and we use pop up canopies if it is raining).

To do so, we:

  • Invite groups to provide & serve a meal to 100 people.

  • Collect & distribute gently used clothing/shoes/ bedding and try to have personal care items on hand every week (items such as toilet paper, deodorant, body wipes, feminine products, etc.)

We believe the most important part of our mission is relationship building.

To do so, we are consistent. We show up rain or shine, every week like clockwork so our guests, who we now consider our family & friends, can always count on us.

We work hard to get to know each one of the guests, their story, their struggles and how we can pray for them.

We try to meet specific needs when they arise… be it rent, pots and pans, sneakers, a bus pass or a birthday gift for a loved one.

We cannot meet every need, but through the grace of God and partnership with our generous donors/volunteers, we do the best we can!

We have learned over the years, however, that what these folks need is not necessarily a clean pair of socks or a hot meal, but someone who…

Knows their name.

Tells them they are loved.

Prays for them.

Is happy to see them.

Behind the
Scenes

HSM is supported by a small Board of 5 people, which includes the Zebo’s, who are the husband and wife duo that also run the day to day. Their family runs everything out of their home, without paid staff. Through God’s grace, HSM is purely supported by volunteers (all the way from communications/org needs to those who come every week for our Sunday meal). We all have our spiritual gifts and it’s amazing to see how everyone comes together to bring this mission to life week after week.

We are not affiliated with a particular church, but we partner with many organizations, including churches, athletic teams, neighborhoods, small groups, corporate organizations, other religious organizations, and other community groups.
